I have noticed an unusual trend that is going on on the web called horizontal content web sites. This is the technique of building a website that can reign supreme over all search results. This is something that would be hard to do for a low budget website but for hugh corporations with deep pockets it can be done.

A good example of a horizontal content website would be Wikipedia. But you are not confined to developing encyclopedia websites to make this happen. This type of site can have past, present and new info about all. A website that large could get loads of hits and unique guest. All you need is a bunch of authors repeatedly sending in article after article about every niche market.

Horizontal content web sites are grown with the use of long tail keywords. They use an algorithm that finds 100s even 1000s of these and build pages for each one. After that you can display an item or program to every page. This certainly goes against all the professionals who say that keeping your web site focused on a certain topic is the best way to go. But I would not be concerned to much about your niche websites right about now. But it can make you think about how competitive the bottom end of search results will become. Since long tail keywords are good for new sites to get a leg up on how can this chance their visitor count in the future?

You can believe that an authority site could make an attempt at this but there is a disadvantage. This will take lots of optimization and it would be a big time drainer to construct each page for page one views. Some pages may do well while others will not get found. So there is a good chance that the large corporations that will attempt this will spend big bucks on building links to each in every page. Not something a typical site owner could attempt.

It maybe a good ideas to begin this on a small scale and make it a part of your search engine optimization before the big dogs dominate them all. The internet will only become more competitive and because of this you need to step up your efforts. There is no need to create a site about everything just those things that is similar to your niche. Start with one and build on it until you own the whole subject. Make yourself the authority when someone searches for any ideas that similar to your site.

Since there are a growing number of niches being created every day you do not have to be too concerned about horizontal content websites. No matter how much a webmaster can write it would be nearly impossible to report on everything known to mankind. There will always be a window of opportunity open for you if you keep your eyes on the hottest new topics.

The smart thing to do is to keep your focus on creating lots of mini niche websites. You can learn how to build them by heading over to our residual income businesses page. Looking for better hosting for your niche sites then visit our cheap hosting space page for the best hosting around.

Do you care about Alexa rankings? I do. It’s a site that most webmasters are familiar with. Having a great Alexa ranking can help you sell more advertising, increase your site’s prestige, and sell your site at a potentially higher price. Of course Alexa ranking is not too important, but luckily it is relatively easy to achieve a great Alexa ranking.

Here’s all you need to do – Join as many popular web master communities as possible (you’ve probably already done this step) and:

Post your site in the review section

Get your site appraised (if different from the site’s review section)

Put a link to your site in your signature

Conduct business as usual, but place important information on your site, so that interested people will have to click on your site.

Make an interesting thread regarding Alexa rankings. Usually people who are interested in Alexa (i.e. have the Toolbar installed) will read the thread. Make sure that some critical aspect of the thread requires a click on your site.

If your site has a blog, write a post about Alexa, put them on social networks, bookmarking sites, etc. Also, summarize the blog posting, and make a thread about it in the appropriate section with a link to your full article.

Last but not least, make sure you have the Alexa toolbar installed!

So what does this do? Well, who else uses the Alexa toolbar besides webmasters? Not very many people. Getting traffic from these communities will definitely increase your Alexa rankings.

The main thing to remember is do NOT be an idiot. Do NOT make stupid posts. You should only post things on communities that will be helpful to the community. If you spam these communities with stupid threads to increase your Alexa rankings, people are going to see right through it, and call you on your crap. The key is to act normal, and make sure as many web masters as possible are clicking on your site.
